Hi There!

This is a post from Macbook fanboy ;) I’ve been trying out a few themes and tweaks for a while and it's been fun. This is how my desktop looks…

First things first, get the Gnome Tweak Tool.

sudo add-apt-repository universe

sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool

Mac Mojave Theme

Getting the Mac Theme is pretty straight forward. Head over to this McMojave Theme Pack. Download the Mojave-light.tar.xz file and extract it in /usr/share/themes folder.

Mac Catalina OS Icon Pack

This process is also similar to getting a theme. Just go to the Catalina OS Icon Page and download Os-Catalina-icons.tar.xz. Extract it in /usr/share/icons folder.

Gnome-Tweaks

Fire up the tweaks application and head over to the Appearance section. The remaining settings are quite intuitive. Set your Application theme and Icon Pack here.

Mac Wallpapers

Get dem 5K wallpapers coz why not!

Wait, that’s not all!

How can we miss the Spotlight Search?!?!

Cerebro Preview

There’s this app Cerebro that makes life easy. Hit Ctrl+Space the search bar opens up. With the right plugins, you can view code snippets from files and even do google search right there.

Fixing the Dock

There are many mac-like docks available. I prefer the Plank Dock…

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ricotz/docky

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install plank

Next, remove the default ubuntu dock:

sudo apt remove gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

Just in case you want the ubuntu dock back, use this command:

sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

An Optional Thing

I personally like the notes app on Macs. Clean UI, calm animations, quick launch, it has become my gedit alternative…

Here’s the download page.

PS: Do tell me if you have any more hacks for Mac Experience.

That’s all folks
